What is discipleship?
Early in each of the four Gospels Jesus calls a few people to do something that will change their lives forever. He says 'Follow me!' They do and nothing is ever the same. He instructs them, trains them, mentors them and sends them out on missions. Those men and women were known as the disciples of Jesus Christ.
2000 years later there are now more disciples than at any other time in history. That's because Jesus' call to discipleship continues to be heard every single day. People respond, their lives are changed and little by little they learn more about what it is to go God's way.
Discipleship is always about three things: learning Christian faith; following Jesus' way of life; and deepening the discipline of serving God and other people. But discipleship is lived out in many different ways. Every single Christian grows in a way that is unique to them.
Furthermore, Foundations21 reflects the pattern of the four Gospels, with their four distinctive pathways for discipleship - those of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. As you explore Foundations21 you will increasingly be led to your own pattern of Christian service, through these four pathways.
